IP risk checker: VPN, Tor and datacenter
This free IP risk checker tells you whether an IP address is a VPN, a Tor exit node or a datacenter, the networks people use to hide where they really are. Enter any public IPv4 or IPv6 address, or leave the field empty to check your own. You get the category in plain words, plus the network (ASN) and the country.

We don't store what you type. The address is checked and then forgotten: it isn't saved, and our logs record only that a check ran and its result category. Up to 20 checks an hour.
What each answer means
Tor exit node
VPN provider
Cloud or hosting network
Likely a home, mobile or office connection
Not enough data
Where the answer comes from
The country and the network come from the DB-IP Lite IP location database. Tor exit nodes come from the public Tor exit list. VPNs come from a list of VPN provider ranges, and datacenters from a list of hosting and cloud networks, matched by the network's ASN.
An IP location is an estimate. For a VPN or a proxy, the country is where its server is, not where the person is.
Only public addresses can be checked. Private, reserved and loopback addresses such as 192.168.1.1, 10.0.0.1 or 127.0.0.1 exist only inside a network, so there is nothing to look up.
How to check the IP of every sign-up
InlineShield runs the same Tor, VPN and datacenter checks on the IP address of every sign-up, and compares the browser's time zone with the IP country. With the default rules a sign-up from a VPN or a datacenter is held for review rather than refused, so you decide: approve it with a KYC check, or reject it.
Send the player's IP in one call from your registration code; see the REST API and VPN and Tor detection. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenings a month.
Frequently asked questions
Is this IP a VPN?
Enter it in the checker above. If it is in the ranges of a known VPN provider, the result says VPN. The VPN list covers IPv4 addresses; no list knows every VPN, so a clean result is not a guarantee.
What is my IP address, and is it flagged?
Leave the field empty and press "Check my IP". The result shows the public address our server sees for you and how it is classified.
How do you detect Tor?
Tor publishes the addresses of its exit nodes. The checker looks the address up in that public list.
What is a datacenter IP?
An address that belongs to a cloud or hosting provider rather than a home or mobile internet provider. The checker recognises these networks by their ASN, the number that identifies a network on the internet.
Can casinos and sportsbooks detect a VPN?
Often, yes: with VPN provider lists, the Tor exit list and hosting-network lists, as this checker does, plus a comparison of the browser's time zone with the IP country at sign-up.
Why did my VPN come back clean?
New VPN servers, small providers and residential proxies, which route traffic through real home connections, are not on every list. That is why InlineShield also checks the email address and the browser at sign-up.
Is iCloud Private Relay a VPN?
Not here. Apple's published Relay ranges are removed from the VPN list. Relay traffic that leaves through a cloud network can still show as a datacenter.
Does it work with IPv6?
Yes. IPv6 addresses are checked for Tor and hosting networks. The VPN list covers IPv4 only, so an IPv6 address that isn't Tor or hosting shows as "Couldn't classify" rather than a guess.
Why can't I check 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.0.1?
Those are private addresses that exist only inside a home or office network, as are loopback addresses like 127.0.0.1 and other reserved ranges. Only public addresses can be looked up.
How accurate is the country?
It is an estimate from an IP location database (DB-IP Lite), usually reliable at country level. For a VPN or proxy it is the country of the server, not of the person.
Should I block every VPN sign-up?
Not necessarily: some real players use VPNs for privacy. InlineShield holds VPN and datacenter sign-ups for review by default, so you can let the player in with a KYC check or without the bonus instead of losing them.
Do you store the IPs I check?
No. We don't store what you type. The address is checked and forgotten, and our logs record only which tool ran and the result category. You can make 20 checks an hour.
